Deer on the Spit

"Feasting with Kings"
Deer on the Spit.
Location: "Booyah" the beautiful property of Ann and Chris, Mount Vincent at the base of the Watagan Mountains, 8th to 9th September.

Peter began the day bright and early by picking up the deer at 7.00am and transporting him in grand style to "Booyah".
Because of the rain (which continued in light and sometimes very heavy showers for the whole weekend) our deer was placed on Chris's Spit under a blue umbrella.

The deer was devotedly attended to all day by being turned and basted with a magic brew.

Members and guests filtered in gradually all day and installed themselves under a spacious awning beautifully decorated with a bright orange "honeysuckle" vine. We were kept warm by a pot belly - type stove - ultra modern and looking like a space craft.
Just on dark, members seemed to arrive in droves and Happy Hour continued on as our deer went through the final stages of cooking. Camp ovens were laden with potatoes, pumpkin and gravy.
Our plates were piled high with slices of venison, vegies and salad as we sat at tables under the awning, or grouped around a blazing log fire to enjoy our "Feast of Kings".

Sumptuous slices and beverages followed.
Ray's portable T.V. kept football fans updated.
About 7 trucks stayed the night - some with tents, others with trailers, spaced on lawns around the picturesque dam.
Breakfast time followed quietly and the group broke camp, some to go to the Broke fair, some to go home, while Roz and Jeff remained luxuriating until after lunch.
Peter's final words were "If Chris and Ann have a feast here next year I'll cook a goat Greek style......."
Roz.
